Technically, there is little difference between a 9N and a 2N, but the 2N replaced the 9N in 1942 as a new, albeit stripped down version of the earlier 9N tractor during WWII. Shortly after the 2N's introduction it lost most of its unique war shortage deletions (steel wheels and no electrical system other than the ignition via a magneto) and pretty much reverted back to the original earlier 9N specs, although it was still officially called a 2N until 1947 when production of this model ceased and the 8N was introduced to replace it. Even though the 2N was supposedly a different tractor, it still carried a "9N" designation on the engine serial number stamping and as a consequence all N series tractors up to the substantially different 8N are commonly referred to as a "9N". It should also be just one colour, a dark grey, but just as commonly as being misnamed, it also is painted the incorrect 8N colour scheme, but it still looks pretty good!
